OUR STORY

For many people, Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day. For us, it was just the opposite. We met on Friday, September 13, at a local bar in Chicago. After more than five hours of conversation, we knew we had found someone unique and special in each other.

On the third date, while sipping bourbon together, Jorge pulled out his acoustic guitar and began singing a song for Monica. (Jorge remembers this slightly differently and recalls that Monica asked him to play his guitar (pictured below) and he – reluctantly – agreed.) Monica was immediately smitten and wondered, where had this smart, kind, charming, half-Mexican, half-Salvadoran lawyer who likes dogs and plays guitar been all her life?? For his part, Jorge knew, almost immediately, that he had found his person – a beautiful, passionate, intelligent, and empathetic partner for life. It wasn’t long before Monica and her dog, Mika, fell in love with Jorge – and Jorge fell madly in love with them both.

Fast forward two years, on July 21, 2021, Jorge proposed (with Mika’s help!) just after Monica was finishing her latest Zoom call. It was just another Wednesday (up until that point), which made it more unexpected! With the engagement ring slipped on Mika’s collar, Jorge said to Monica, “Mika has something for you.” As Mika jumped for a hug (he knew Mika would jump, and if you’ve spent time with Mika you’d know this, too), Monica saw the ring and was overwhelmed with joy (and tears). Of course, she said Yes!

On November 12, 2022, we will be getting married in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. We can’t wait to celebrate with you and continue our story!
